These are the latest to emerge from my glacial painting process for a quick photo shoot. Firstly some 'studio shots'.
The command strip, as Hinton Hunt (HH) never did standard bearers or drummers in greatcoats these two had them added with solder, followed by much filing.
The only changes to the rank and file were to repair about half of the bayonets, beef up the plumes a bit, and paint eagles instead of lozenge shaped cap badges and eagles as opposed to bugles on the cartridge boxes. The latter required the badges to be filed down a bit so the bugle device was not proud.
And then all together...
...all twenty eight of them!
My foot units are all usually 24-strong but these are 28-strong, using every figure I had. I did this because wielding a soldering iron entails some risk, so I was expecting some losses, but all went well so I thought I'd paint them all up.
And so, into the field: in line...
...and finally.
=============ADDENDUM=============
Spotted I had left something unpainted! No prizes for spotting it - here's the finished article.
Excellent conversion work Rob and the whole unit look super smart!
ReplyDeleteThanks, the greatcoats make it much easier! The only other Guard infantry I'm planning are the Marins (Sailors) but they will be in full uniform with all that lace! I almost have enough for that but must do some more Spanish and French line first.
ReplyDeleteCurrently messing about with a few Hinchliffe Robin Hood figures, trying to reproduce the 'Gilder-style'.
Simply magnificent. This really is toy soldiery of the highest order Rob!
ReplyDeleteThanks, you do know it's you that got me sucked into this retro 20mil Nap thing?
DeleteLovely work on them, they look super and en masse make for a really superb regiment.
ReplyDeleteThanks, I have some line infantry advancing in greatcoats, about enough for two units, but they are way down the painting list.
ReplyDeleteWell those gentlemen certainly emerged from the mist. I had no idea the Fusilier-Chasseurs were to be the focus of you figures in greatcoats. They are absolutely lovey and have every right to be offended by Cambronne's disdain!
ReplyDeletePS What is the white tassel at the top of the plumes? I have never seen that, but of course none of my illustrations I used for reference show the top of the plume.
DeleteThanks, I was hoping everyone would just be expecting some down-at-heel line unit and that would give them more impact. There is no tassel, it's just the light reflecting off their high gloss finish. The plumes are green with red tops, both were then highlighted by mixing in some yellow and white respectively.
DeleteGot it! I see now when comparing with the shots on the tabletop. Do you have a light directly above the figures in your lightbox? I have thought of doing that, but don't want to mess with setting up an extra light overhead.
DeleteThe lightbox has a circle of LEDs in the 'lid' so there is light coming down from all around the figures.
DeleteThese are GOOD!
ReplyDeleteThanks, how's your Jacklex ACW collection coming on, gameable yet?
DeleteSadly due to health problems I have not been able to add any more or game with what I have.
DeleteHopefully there is light at the end of the tunnel (although going towards the light could be a mistake!).
Beautifully done Rob…
ReplyDeleteThey are porcelain like in their shininess…
My butterfly is fluttering madly now 🦋🦋🦋🤣
All the best. Aly
Thanks, but surely your shiny Naps are already riding that butterfly?
